I’m the kid who over-bit his carrot.
Trying to find that wobbly root
enclosed by its sleek orange exterior.
They say it’s the best part, worth the time
not to mention the necessary sacrifice to the teeth
with their carrot-clogged chunks.
A task involving numerous nibbles
when one could have taken a single satisfying chomp
after the standard swoop into ranch dip.
But the kid bit too big.
And the root was too thin, too weak.
