A boy who all but negated normal.
Each thought, each act redirected, ready
to render accessible the purple
beyond the red-blue vocabulary.
Wrapped tightly in blankets tinged with sour
hesitation, the boy, hiding his skin
sunburned by desperation, found the power
to slay the dragon, in only one day
with only a toothpick.
Next morning’s mirror found the boy stark naked,
reflection no longer stapled with plastic
grins, tears, and a body dissociated.
New thoughts penetrated freedom from should,
the boy forever free from “I never could.”
