worthy

We are born with a body
And as young girls
We are taught to ask
Is this body good enough?
Is it worthy?
Our body is wrapped in skin
And as adolescents
We are taught to ask
Is this skin clear enough?
Is it worthy?
Our skin is wrapped in clothing
That we are told must be sexy
But cant be slutty
Our face if not naturally pretty
Must be painted
Our hair shaved and plucked
Immaculately

These days I’ve somehow
Seemed to escape the world
Of pornstars, movies and magazines
My clothes are old
My face is just my face
And my legs are furry
Yet today I can feel my body
Soft, shy
Skin, ill-used to sunlight, scaly
Still whispering to me
Am I beautiful enough?
Still whispering, am I worthy?
